The Early Interval, Early Music in Columbus, April 24 2015

The Early Interval’s spring concert will explore the colorful vocal and instrumental music that was composed and performed in 13th-century Spain. The program will include the music of troubadours that served at the court of Alfonso X (who ruled most of Spain from 1252 to 1284); motets and other music composed for religious services and celebrations; a sampling of the Cantigas de Santa Maria collected by Alfonso X; music from the Codex de Las Huelgas; the music of Martin Codax; and Moorish music performed in Spain in the 13th century. The Early Interval will perform vocally and on recorders, medieval and Near Eastern harps, medieval lute, guitarra latina, vielle, rebec, pipe and tabor and early percussion instruments. The concert will be accompanied by visual examples of the colorful art of 13th-century Spain.

The members of The Early Interval are Ron Cook, director; Jim Bates; Janice Cook; Tamara Seckel;  Sean Ferguson and Lyz Liddell. The Early Interval will be joined for this special program by sopranos Margaret Wells and Katherine Wolfe.
