Capturing the Clavisimbalum
It’s not completely clear if Hermann Poll (1370 – 1401) really invented the clavisimbalum, but it’s time to chase the history of this instrument, the ancestor of the harpsichord. Following treatises, paintings and music, this program includes pieces from the late-13th-century Spain and France, the famous Codex Faenza and the Buxheimer Orgelbuch, Eastern European sources and a touch of English music too. Composers, just to name a few, include Philippe de Vitry, Don Paolo da Firenze, Gilles Binchois, Mikolaj Radomsky, Francesco Landini, and many more.
